10/25/2001 Entry: "high school reunion / old friends"

A few months ago I received an email from an old classmate announcing our ten year high school reunion (next year). I can't believe it's already been ten frigging years. Ever since I found out about the reunion old acquaintances have been coming out of the woodwork. My high school crony (and still one of my best friends), Tiffany, is amazing at finding out info about our old pals. She should've been a P.I. instead of an insurance agent.

Talking to old friends is kind of unsettling. Sometimes it feels like you should be able to pick up exactly where you left off with that person, even if you haven't seen them for 10 years. And then there's the people who you just can't reconnect with, no matter how much you talk to them, but they think you should still be one of their best buddies. I've found myself trying to predict which way it will go before I take those little strolls down memory lane with people. For the most part I'm satisfied with sharing a few old stories, finding out how the person is doing, and leaving it at that.

Post h.s. friends have been calling, too. One of my best buds, Allen, called me out of the blue a few months ago. He and I had a big fight in 1996 or '97 and then he moved to Florida. I can't even remember why we weren't speaking to each other. Getting back in touch with him was really nice. He's one of those people I know I'll always be friends with, even if we don't talk for many years.

One old friend, Joe, called many weeks ago after I'd had a couple of martinis. I was drunk, so I don't think the conversation was very coherent on my end. I vaguely recall him mentioning that our friend Tim had become a gaming addict, but that's about it. Damn that devil gin. I'm sure he thinks I'm a raging alcoholic. Ah, well... what can you do?

So back to the reunion. Am I going? Nah. I'm still in contact with everyone I really cared about in high school. Or I at least know how to get in touch with them. Maybe I'll go to the 20 year shindig.

What do you think of the new journal layout? Is it easier to read? Is the text too small? No matter what changes I make ALL the text on my site appears microscopic on Zack's Sparc box. Let me know.
